  1. The project was first hatched in Silver City New Mexico between Rod & Punky of “Smoky and the Pro’s” project, and myself (in 1989). I was tasked to raise about $6000.00 for the posters, artwork, printing, and distribution. Rod would do the artwork. I went to the BLM (Boise) Regions 1, 4, 5, and 6 smokejumper programs for the loot and got it! We originally wanted to do an offensive line of jumpers suited-up, with Smokey Bear as the center. Joe Montana would play his usual position behind Smokey. The 49er’s and Joe didn’t like the idea. The compromise was the poster as seen. It was shot in Santa Clara in the Fall of 1990.

  2. Mario rookied at Redmond and Greg Felts from Mc Call is to the right of Mario. This poster was made back in 91.

  3. To the left of Montana is Mario Marquez, who rookied at Redding and then moved to the BLM Boise smokejumpers. Two to the right of Montana is Frank Domingues, who also rookied at Redding and then moved to the BLM jumpers in Fairbanks.

  4. the Guy holding the helmet in front is Wayne Williams-MSO, the other one in front is Ron Rucker-RDM, the female in back is Kim Maynard-MSO. not sure of the rest
