CAL FIRE waiting for DGS to go over submitted bids. With End of FY coming up, will take a little time. Super Puma out of picture. To many problems. Look for SA-330 Medium Puma, Fire Hawk or AW-139. Which ever way they go, it will be adding a whole bunch of mechanics and support personnel. And when they go night flying, slowly with 305 and 301 probably first, going to need some new pilots. This will be a major upgrade for CAL FIRE Aviation Program.

  2. The train to no where is taking precedence. Don’t hold your breath on any “new” helicopters. On the subject of aircraft, has Global Super Tanker’s 747 had any luck securing any type of a contractual agreement outside Colorado? Don’t sit in Colorado and wait for the phone to ring. “go west young men”. Its time to make deals! Show the media and public what you can accomplish. I would like to see it myself.

  3. Great addition to an enviable air operation! (kind of funny that LAFD labels each ship with the “Air Ops” tail graphic- isn’t that restating the obvious?)
On an almost completely unrelated note, whatever happened to CalFire’s ambitious helicopter replacement plan? Seems like any mention of it vaporized some time ago, despite their stated desire to conduct a speedy selection of an off-the-shelf aircraft.

    1. Rumor has it that cal fire selected Blackhawks but there has been no official word on what their UH-1s will be replaced with.
